Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez is a very famous actress. Jennifer was born on July 24,1970. She was born in New York City. Jennifer parents were raised in Puerto Rico. She has two other sisters. Prior to her acting career she made a record. In 1999 her record was number one. Soon after her record she tried out for a movie called Selena Star. She was the actress who was picked. She was paid one million dollars. That made her the highest paid Latina actress. Later in the year she was offered five million dollars for a movie called Angel’s Eyes. She is still a very famous actress.


Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey is a U.S. singer. She was born on March 27,1970. Mariah’s mom was an Irish Opera Singer. Her father was an African-Venezuelan aeronautics engineer. Then, her parents divorced when she was four. She was separated from her father, brother, and sister. She’d always dream of being a singer and started writing songs as a teenager. She graduated from high school in 1987. Her first album got over 6,000,000 copies sold. She married the chief of Sony Music in 1993. The two divorced in 1997. She is 38 and has entertained many fans. Still, today she sings for different reasons, like concerts, or singing the Star Spangled Banner at baseball games.


Desi Arnaz

Desi Arnaz was born on March 2nd in 1917. He and his family lived in Cuba. They were very rich and his father was the mayor. But in 1933 their house burned down. Desi’s father was imprisoned. When his father was released from jail, Desi and his family escaped to Miami, Florida. Desi and his father lived in an abandoned warehouse that was infested with rats and other disgusting animals. Later, he started playing music at a hotel being paid thirty-nine dollars a week. He got noticed by Xavier Cugat and started playing Ricky on I Love Lucy. Unfortunately, He died in 1986. Many people still remember him; I Love Lucy is still on the air, which reminds us of Desi Arnaz.

Fernando Valenzuela

Fernando Valenzuela was born in Mexico. He was 1 of 12 children. Twenty years later he came to America to play baseball. He pitched 2,348 innings and threw a no hitter against the Cardinals in 1990. He was rookie of the year and won the Cy Young Award. When he pitched for the Dodgers at least 12,000 fans came to the game to see him play. He was with the Dodgers for 10 years. He pitched for five different teams and then went to the Cardinals. After having a horrible season with the Cardinals he went to the Mexican league. Now he has inspired so many young players.


Antonia Novello

Antonia Novello was born on August 23,1994, in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. Later when she was in college she studied medicine at the University of Purto Rico. In order to get a good medical career she moved to America. Her major was programs to increase AIDS awareness, to stop young people from smoking, and provide better health for children. Eventually she got an M.D in 1970. Soon she married Navy flight surgeon named Joseph R. Overall, she worked with many organizations to promote the immunization of children and the prevention of childhood injuries. She was involved with Healthy Children Ready to Learn Initiative.


Oscar De la Renta

Oscar de la Renta was born in the Dominican Republic. When he was 18 he moved to Spain. He studied painting there at the Academy of San Fernando in Madrid. When he got there he immediately changed his mind to study fashion. When he was living in Spain he became very interested in the world of fashion design and began sketching for leading Spanish houses, which very close after lead to him being the co-director with Spain’s most known couturier, Cristobal Balenciaga. Later he left Spain to join Antonio Castillo as couture assistant at Lavin in Paris. In 1963, he could not decide between designing custom clothing for Elizabeth Arden or for Christian Dior –New York. He then went and asked the editor of Vogue magazine and she said he should go with Elizabeth Arden because he would be known faster than if he had chosen to go with Dior.Oscar took her advice and worked with Elizabeth for 2 years. Later on he started his own business in fashion. After a year or two he decided to marry. He ended up marrying four times. He brought the craziest and most beautiful fashion to the USA. When he leaves to retire he will leave huge pumps for the people in the fashion industry to fill.


Cesar Chavez

Cesar Chavez was an important person in American history. He was born in Yuma, Arizona, on March 31, 1927. Although he was born in the U.S; his parents were born in Mexico. When he was a boy, his family became migrant farm workers, and in 1942 he got a job working on a farm in California. Four years later he joined the National Agricultural Workers Union
(NAWU) and then joined the NFWLW in 1948. Then in 1965 he organized Californian grape pickers with Dolores Hurta.. If not for his strong leadership and determination, pesticides in grapes and lettuce may have poisoned the American public. Sadly, he died in 1993.


Roberto Clemente

Roberto Clemente was a famous Hispanic baseball player. He was born in Carolina, Puerto Rico, on August 18, 1934. Later in his early life in high school, he made it on a softball team and stayed on it for two years. After high school he joined Puerto Rico’s amateur league at the age of 16. In the meantime he was spotted by an American and came to America to play baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Most of the time he was sitting on the bench. During the rookie season he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates. During the season in 1955, he unfortunately was in a car accident, and because of that he missed the rest of the season. Later in 1971 the Pittsburgh Pirates made it to the World Series but lost. After his career was over he unfortunately died in a plane crash but is still remembered in our culture



Geraldo Rivera

Geraldo Rivera was born in 1943 in the United States. His parents were two different religions, Puerto Rican and Jewish. His father was Puerto Rican, and his mother was Jewish. He married four times and had one son. When he left New York City, he felt rejected for his Brooklyn-Spanish accent. He divides personal time between New York City and Cape Cod. He is a famous for his interesting newscasts. He contributed to America in many ways and still does.


Carlos Santana

Carlos Santana was a famous guitarist who won eight Grammy Awards and had four platinum albums.
Carlos grew up in the small town of Autlan, Mexico. When Carlos was eight his family moved to Tijuana, also in Mexico. He was listening to radio one day when for the first time he heard the blues. He immediately fell in the love with the blues. He had previously played the violin with his father who was a violinist. Carlos got his first guitar. He loved his guitar immensely. Once again he moved, this time to San Francisco, California. Carlos joined a band and called it Santana Blues Band, later called “Santana.” The band played in clubs and bars. They became famous overnight. They went national, and then went worldwide. Santana’s song “Supernatural” won eight Grammy Awards. The band broke up, but the music of Santana is still one of the most famous in the world.


Oscar de la Hoya

Oscar de la Hoya was born East Los Angeles on February 4, 1973. He was born to two Mexican immigrants. Their names were Joel and Cecilia De La Hoya. He also had two siblings, and their names were Joel Jr. who was his older brother and his younger sister’s name was Ceci. When he was full-grown he was 5’11” with a 72-inch reach. Nevertheless he was a regular sized man. He was so great of a boxer that he won various titles and championships. I’d say that he’s a Mexican Muhammad Ali. His nickname was Golden Boy because of all the gold around his waist.
